Smith Smith (21 March 1943 – 20 April 1991) was an Australian journalist and broadcaster. == Early life == Vincent Ross Smith was born in Perth, Western Australia on 21 March 1943. Smith was born in the Tresillian Hospital, Nedlands, to parents Ross and Ina.〔''The West Australian'', 22 March 1943〕 Both his father Ross Smith (Charles David) and grandfather Charles Patrick Smith were involved in the newspaper business in Perth, with Charles Patrick Smith the managing editor of West Australian Newspapers Ltd.〔''The Sunday Times'' (Perth), 10 July 1938〕 Charles is listed on ''The West Australian'' Wikipedia page as an editor from 1927 to 1951. Charles Patrick Smith was a journalist and war correspondent for the Melbourne ''Argus'', before moving to Perth in 1927 he was appointed managing editor of West Australian Newspapers Ltd. Charles was a skilled political reporter, becoming closely acquainted with prime ministers George Reid, Alfred Deakin, Joseph Cook, Andrew Fisher and Billy Hughes, as well as J Vincent grew up in the Perth suburb of Claremont, where his grandfather also had a home. Smith's father, Charles David Ross, is listed on the 1963 Electoral Roll as a journalist〔Ancestry.com.au – Electoral Roll listing for seat of Curtin, WA – 1963〕 living in Claremont. While working in Canberra, Smith met Susan Marks.
